2 minutes

Today we will be talking about on Dhanteras/ Dhan Triyodashi. This year, Dhanteras will be celebrated on November 13, 2020. The tithi will begin on November 12 at 9:30 pm and end on November 13 at around 6 pm. However, as we often count most tithis by sunrise, Dhanteras will be celebrated on November 13.

On this day, we do Shri Lakshmi and Kuber pooja and also complete Bhagwan Dhanvantari pooja. You can do Bhagwan Dhanvantri pooja between morning 06:42 to 08:02 on November 13 and the most auspicious time for Lakshmi-Kuber pooja will be between 05:26 pm and 05:59 pm IST. Popular belief is that today Shri Lakshmi arrives at your house. Therefore, people buy gold, silver, precious stones, ornaments, jewelry etc on this day.

It is also common to buy utensils, new vehicles, properties land etc. on this day. The day is considered the same when Bhagvan Dhanvantri emerged from the cosmic sea after Samudra Manthan with an amrit kalash. He is considered the original physician and credited as the founder of the Ayurveda system of medicine. In this video, I will be talking about Bhagwan Dhanvantri, the auspicious times to buy gold on Dhanteras, Yama Deepam ritual, rashi-wise things to buy on Dhanteras and some important tips.

Dhanvantari Pooja

Bhagwan Dhanvantari emerged from Samudra Manthan carrying the amrit kalash- the point of contention between devatas and asuras. Bhagwan Dhanvantari is credited as the founder or Ayurveda. Therefore, he can be connected to good health and longevity.

People working in the medical/Ayurveda profession worship Bhagwan Dhanvantari on Dhanteras. This year, the Muhurat for pooja would be 6:40 am on November 13 to 8:50 am.

Yama Deepam

This is a small ritual done on the evening of Dhanteras, precisely around the time of sunset, which seeks the blessings of Yamaraj. In this ritual, you light a small diya and put it right outside the front gate of your house. It is considered that lighting this diya helps in warding off any possibilities of an untimely death and brings the blessings of Yamaraj.
